UPPER PLAYGROUND TO LAUNCH| "SHINGANIST" by USUGROW

Being avid lovers of the artist Usugrow, we were pleasantly surprised to receive the latest news from the good folks over at Upper Playground about their new partnership with the artist. The new line entitled "Shinganist" derives from the Japanese word "Shingan" (meaning mind's eye), and will be his first clothing line to launch in the U.S. on August 1st.

Shinganist will pull inspiration from underground Japanese lifestyle, as well showcase the works of guest artists and Usugrow himself. Upper Playground and Usugrow view the line as a vehicle to introduce a new generation of Japanese artists to the world.

Usugrow started drawing in 1993 for various hardcore metal bands, hip-hop groups, album covers, merchandise, clothing brands, shops, skate companies, whatever. Currently based in Tokyo, Japan his black and white illustrations are one of a kind, combining calligraphy with his drawings. He is inspired by flowers, Buddha statues, album covers, skateboard designs, and music flyers.

HELLZ x STUSSY Present: "Ladies First" Capsule Collection & Party

Okay, so we realize that we have gone Hellz happy this week...but van you blame us?

The anticipated release of the Hellz x Stussy limited edition capsule rightfully entitled "Ladies First", officially dropped this past Saturday. After hearing and seeing this a few months back, we knew that this would be one to watch. The collection consists of three distinct t-shirt designs (one with rude boy inspired suspenders), a short sleeve hoodie, jacket with the words "Ladies First" across the back, with matching cropped pants and a tote bag. Best of all the prices are amazing, ranging from about $24-$60. You can't beat that!

We deliberately didn't post up anything knowing that legit images wouldn't become available until the final days. After all, we don't want to tease and keep you hungry when we can just give you the whole steak! In celebrating this momentous occasion Hellz x Stussy will be hosting a blow out affair this coming Tuesday, March 10th from 9pm to 2am at the Ecco Ultra Lounge in LA. We won't be their, but you might. Our loss is your gain. Dance the night away and show your support.

HELLZ BELLZ| | "Culture Clash" Collection Spring 2009 Delivery I

Okay I realize that yours truly has been a little behind in rocking out the posts. I've been trying to multi-task about 5 different things at once, including building the womens line at Special Sauce, and getting my hustle on with PR projects I got simmering in the kitchen. I need a clone of myself that I can give daily tasks to.

In the midst of all my confusion I realized that I didn't have the chance to drop the Spring 2009 collection from Hellz Bellz. I know, I know- I'm seriously about two weeks late on this new, but so be it. If I can redeem myself to you all (and in my defense) I did drop the good word with a SNEAK PEAK back in January. Ha! ha! so there...How you like them apples!

Anyhow on with the show....

The newest release to drop from Hellz is rightfully entitled "Culture Clash". Known for her edgy style, designer Lanie Alabanza once again brings a true punch of diversity with a bitch slap full of color! The Spring '09 collection will start with Delivery I to select retailers, which of course will include Sauce (Don't worry, I got you ladies!).

The line features a fusion of versatile cut and sew pieces including a zebra mesh jacket w/ contrast red lining (which I previously previewed), brushed french terry hoodie, the anticipated acid wash denim jacket with iconic broken bottle embroidered artwork on the back, as well as a variety of new graphic tees (my favorite being the Coco x Hellz), tank top and multi-colored leggings. C. NEEEON Presents: "SUNDAY TASTE" COLLECTION S/S09

Its always a treat when we here at Rawthentix have the chance to introduce designers that are a little off the beaten path. You may not be familiar with the
c. neeon brand (we were happily introduced to it 3 years back on a vacation and shopping stint in Berlin), but keep your eyes peeled for this up and coming Berlin based line.

The designers Clara Kraetsch and Doreen Schulz met while attending the Kunsthochschule Berlin College in 2001, where in 2004 they would produce their first collection entitled 'Daydream Collection". Designing for both womens and menswear, the art based label is known for its use of bold color, geometric prints and unusual cuts. Since its introduction, c. neoon has managed to build quite the cult following among the European and Asian markets, by producing notable collaborative projects with UK based Topshop, Nylon, and selling collage artwork with the Lumus art collectors.

The C. Neeon S/S 2009 collection deliciously entitled "Sunday Taste" is striking, seemingly with much more emphasis on ladies garments. Though bold in color choice, the pieces are no fuss, easily light and wearable, with a hint of playfulness. Perfect for that sunlit breezy day. SNEAK PEAK: HELLZ BELLZ SPRING 2009

Back in October Zebak and I made a visit to the Foundation showroom to view the Spring 2009 line for Hellz Bellz. You'll be delighted to know that this collection is eyeful of smashing delights. I would probably have to say this is one of the strongest collections that creator/designer Lanie Alabanza has put out to date! You'll be tickled to know that yours truly has placed a considerable order for the ladies eager to rock these threads. They will become available at Special Sauce. Stay tuned...come see me and say hello!

I have been wanting to bring our female readers the news but of course had to hold back...until now. I got a news update in my email from BKRW. They have just reported that Hellz will be showing their Spring/Summer '09 line for the first time in Paris during fashion week at the "Who's Next" Tradeshow.

What really caught my eye were some of the images from the new upcoming line, primarily the "Coco x Hellz" tshirt. The design is an obvious tribute to the iconic Coco Chanel. It is safe to say that this will be one of the lines major draw and features. I predict it will become one of the collections best sellers as well. Black gloves dripping in pearls...what more could a girl ask for? Take a peak at the image below for some additional styles that will become available within the next few months (just hold a magnifying glass up to your monitor)-ha!ha! Don't worry we'll be dropping more niceness faster than you can say, "Spring is almost here"...

Yesterday was another busy day for the RAW team. Along with the opening of the newest Special Sauce boutique, we've been keeping busy working on a variety of projects to drop in the near future and for the '09. Sorry, mum’s the word for now. With much on my mind, I woke up to early to comprehend, let alone my eyes were nearly closed when getting dressed. Of course the weather was dismal and I had to carry around the damn umbrella. I'm not in the habit of carrying anything unnecessary. My prime objective was to hit up all the showroom appointments that I obligated myself to, while all the while keeping track of time. By the time I hit the Foundation I was blazing hot, and my hair was humidity ridden. The weather as of late has been completely out of whack, don't you think? Anyway, I met up with the always pleasant and chill Ms. Julie to view the Hellz Bellz Summer collection. More on that after the jump!


In the meantime I offer you the latest images from the anticipated Holiday collection, entitled "Born Bad". All I can say is bravo! This collection is going to be keeping ladies properly flossed for the winter months. You can rest easy in knowing that Sauce will be serving it up hot and fresh, very shortly.

Inspired by the infamous Vaudeville actress, and sexual liberator, Mae West, our Holiday collection represents for the ”Born Bad” femme fatale. With West’s racy quotes which sprang, tough-dame style from the side of her mouth, she’s been firmly stamped as the personification of Hellz through her story of survival, persistence, independence and unshakable self-esteem. In her life which ended in 1980, at the age of 87, she became both an icon and pioneer for both men and women everywhere.
